Do you know when a person is unworthy of succession?

According the Cypriot Law on Wills and on Succession (Cap. 195), a person is deemed unworthy to inherit, if he/she:

  • Has been convicted of intentionally and unlawfully causing the death or of intentionally and unlawfully attempting to cause a death of the person to whose estate he would have otherwise succeeded; or
  • Has been convicted of the murder or of the attempted murder of the child, parent, husband or wife of the person to whose estate he would have otherwise succeeded; or
  • By coercion, fraud or mental pressure has caused the person to whose estate he would have otherwise succeeded to make a will or revoke a will that has already been made by him/her; or
  • Has obstructed the person to whose estate he would have otherwise succeeded from making, altering or revoking a will which was already made by him/her;  or
  • Has submitted to the person to whose estate he would otherwise have succeeded a supposititious will; or
  • Has illegally altered or destroyed a will already made by the person to whose estate he would have otherwise succeeded; or
  • Has aided or encouraged any person to commit any of the above acts.
