Executive Director (on behalf of our client)
On behalf of our client, we are seeking to recruit a highly experienced Executive Director for a Cyprus-based company, which is in the process of obtaining its EMI license.
Role Overview
The successful candidate will be a highly experienced executive with in-depth knowledge of the Electronic Money Institution (EMI) regulatory framework, responsible for leading and managing a newly established EMI. To effectively fulfil the role of Executive Director, the candidate must demonstrate strong leadership and management skills, as well as a comprehensive understanding of the operational, regulatory and strategic functions of an EMI.
Duties and Responsibilities
The Executive Director will be expected to:
- Ensure the company complies with all applicable laws and regulatory obligations.
- Set company strategies and ensures continuity of operations.
- Participate in regular meetings to address strategic and operational matters.
- Provide guidance to Senior Management and Heads of Departments on operational and strategic issues.
- Review reports from internal audit, compliance, AML compliance and risk management functions.
- Maintain a deep understanding of the legal and regulatory framework governing EMIs.
- Commit sufficient time to performing duties within the company.
- Oversee and monitor management decision-making when necessary.
- Periodically assess and enhance internal policies, procedures and controls.
- Address any deficiencies and take corrective actions as required.
- Respond to findings or requests issued by the Central Bank and coordinate necessary follow-up actions.
- Ensure full compliance with the Laws and Regulations on the Prevention and Suppression of Money Laundering and Terrorist Financing, as well as the Electronic Money Laws of 2012 and 2018.
- Collaborate with the Board of Directors to appoint a Compliance Officer and an AML Compliance Officer, as required by law.
Candidate Profile
- Proven experience in a senior leadership role within the financial services or EMI sector.
- Strong knowledge of Cypriot and European EMI regulatory frameworks.
- Familiarity with AML compliance and risk management requirements.
- Excellent leadership, strategic thinking, and communication skills.
- Ability to commit adequate time and attention to the role.
