Civil Partnership Law (2015) | Cyprus

On the 26th of November 2015, the law on Civil Partnerships was voted by the House of Representatives of the Republic of Cyprus.

According to the Law, civil partnership agreement is considered to be “the written agreement between two heterosexual or homosexual persons”.

The agreement has to be submitted to the Civil Registry with the following documents:

  • Affidavits and certificates from both parties that they are not prohibited from entering into civil partnership (due to a valid civil or religious wedding or another civil partnership that is still into force);
  • Valid identification document (identity card or passport or another equivalent travel document);
  • Residence permit issued by the Immigration Department, in case of foreign partner(s).

The Civil Partnership provides for insurance, inheritance, tax, property, immigration, pension and other matters.
